Problem

Opoid addiction is an epidemic which is highly stigmatized. Due to this, people have great difficulty in accessing services and resources which are agnostic and non-judgemental

Solution

We created an app which is essentially a tool for accessing resources and services while keeping the community safe

My Role

Researcher, UX/UI Designer in a team of 3.

Scope

6 weeks university project

Market Research

To kickoff our project we took inspiration from service oriented apps which have features such as onboarding, reviews and search functionality. Some apps that we looked at were Reddit, Iirth, Google Reviews, and Prevention Point Pittsburgh. Some thing

Product Evaluation

We created wireframes to facilitate a discussion with peer navigators and doctors who provided us valuable insights and clarity on our design direction

Insights

01.

The language of the app should evoke a sense of trust and security as the target users of the app are distrustful towards institutions

02.

The app should be a safe judgment-free zone where the members have complete autonomy

03.

Emphasis on providing insider information about resources rather than a general overview

Introducing 'No Harm'

A judgement-free app providing its users access to various harm reduction services and resources

Onboarding Screens

These screens focus on orienting the users to the privacy philosophy of our app. We also provided a playful element of anonymous avatar creation so that users can leave reviews on services without their identity being compromised

Bad Bag Alert

Usually drug users visit harm reduction organization to get updated on harmful chemicals in drugs. Through the Bad Bag feature, the members can view and provide information on harmful chemicals found in drugs without any delay

Review

To enhance the app's review feature, we focused on making it informative yet concise, avoiding an overload of data. Additionally, we prioritized evaluating the emotional impact of the service, specifically assessing whether users felt safe, welcomed, and free from judgment.

Key Takeaways

01.

Familiarizing myself in the world of harm reduction meant being very mindful of the terminologies, vocabulary etc.

02.

Collaborating and ideating contributors such as doctors, peer navigators etc. who do not have a design background
