Problem

The clients needed a platform that would guide their employees create professional quality income tax scrutiny responses

Solution

Created a web app which helped the employees fill out tax scrutinies efficiently by improving grammar, insights on latest laws etc.

My Role

Implementation of design and design processes from start to finish

Scope

3 months client project

Initial Research

To kick-off the project I researched on scrutinies and regulations surrounding it, so as to be better prepared with user interviews

Research

We conducted 11 user interviews to get a better understanding of what challenges they face while working on scrutiny. After the interview process we created 2 user personas 'Young Seeker' and 'The Veteran'. Creating personas helped me get into the skin of our target users

The Young Seeker: The one who does the hands-on work of drafting scrutinies

Persona 2- The Veteran.png

The Veteran: The CEO/founder/boss who manages the team

Unpacking Pain Points and Opportunities

I created a connected user journey for 'Young Seeker' and 'The Veteran'. Through this journey, I wanted to highlight the collaborative nature of filling a scrutiny which in turn revealed pain points and potential opportunities

"Our research revealed gaps in knowledge and collaboration that result in a transparency issue between accountants and their clients. How can we, as designers, bridge this gap to enhance understanding and cooperation?"

Initial Iteration

From interview and user journey insights we created wireframes which included some key features such as scrutiny dashboard, response draft page, also a share feature which ensured responding to scrutiny in a transparent and collaborative manner

Visual Research

After finalizing our wireframes we proceeded with visual research where wanted to create visuals that made the product look professional, but also evoked a sense of comfort and ease

“Apriworks is derived from a Latin word Apricus, which means sunshine"

Anuj, Client

Streamlined, Goal-Oriented Dashboard

The Dashboard is very goal oriented in design clearly conveying the tasks at hand, and the deadline for responding to scrutiny. This will help the accountant prioritise his work better

Automated Response Generation

Depending on the question, Apriworks auto-suggests suitable responses with a high success rate. The accountant can choose from the options and adjust them accordingly

Transparency in Collaboration

The users can add comments and tag the relevant party such as their clients, their bosses etc. ensuring transparency at all times

Streamlined Adjournment Process

Due to technical, personal reasons a scrutiny may not be responded on time. In order to deal with this the accountant requests for an adjournment. On approval by the Income Tax Dept., they can then submit the scutiny response at a later date.

Key Takeaways

01.

It was important to be mindful of financial and legal constraints while finding opportunities for improving user experience

02.

Helping stakeholders who do not have a design background understand the design process
